(30 September 1999)

The ITV Network Centre has commissioned a second 13 episodes of the hit animation series The Storykeepers.

The new series, produced by Shepherd Films, and distributed by Monster Distributes will be delivered in Spring 2001 for broadcast on Sunday mornings.

Welcoming the new series, Steve Anderson, ITV’s Controller of News, Current Affairs and Religion said: "The first series of The Storykeepers was a great success on ITV. Its ratings came in well in excess of expectations. We’re very excited about the prospect of a second series"

Andrew Fitzpatrick, chairman of Monster Distributes, said:
"We are delighted that ITV is commissioning the new Storykeepers series. The series now represents a substantial brand, with the first series sold in 105 countries and to many of the world’s top broadcasters including ZDF, Mediaset, Fox Kids Latin America, Canal Plus etc."

The new series, which is a prequel to the existing series, set in AD8, and featuring Old Testament stories within an adventure context was created and is written by Andrew Melrose, who co-created the original series. It is being launched at MIPCOM but it has already been bought by RTE and Mediaset.

The first series of The Storykeepers was completed in March 1997 and has been a big success on video as well as on television. 2 feature length films, The Easter Storykeepers and The Christmas Storykeepers also form part of this franchise.
