(06 December 2001)

The series, which is scheduled to begin airing on 1st January, has also been recently sold to Mediapark for Pay TV in Spain, with a Pay TV deal in Brazil under negotiation at present.

Peter Weil, Head of Programming at Discovery, said “we are really pleased to find a quality, pre-school programme with a unique approach to answering all the questions small children have about the world they live in.”

Andrew Fitzpatrick, Chairman of Monster Distributes said “Discovery is the ideal broadcaster for this series as the home of quality educational programming for kids.”

This 24 x 2 minute animated series created for pre-school children by Irish animation company Brown Bag Films, explains how things work. Including episodes such as ‘What are the stars?’, ‘Why do I have a shadow?’, ‘How do I hear?’ and ‘Why do I have to go to school?’, the questions are asked by two very young children and the answers are provided by an older girl, who helps relate the series to the very young. Written by 2 primary school teachers, the series was extensively researched in the classroom.

Why? is already being broadcast on Channel 5, RTE, Homechoice (UK VoD), TV Ontario, Knowledge Network Canada, The Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company, STV Singapore, Hop! The Nursery Channel (Israel) and on the internet on Thinkbox.
