The ITV Network Centre has commissioned a further 25 episodes of the long-running music series, Planet Rock Profiles from Carlton Television, for ITV's Night Time service. The series from Monster Distributes Ltd., will be transmitted at 01:45 on Tuesday nights, commencing 29th June, and the programmes will also air on ITV-2. The first episodes will feature Jewel, The Beautiful South, The Cardigans and Marc Almond.
As before, each programme is an in-depth profile of a single artist, featuring an interview and music clips. However, the new shows will be presenterless and hence much faster-paced than the previous series.
John Broadbent, for Carlton Television said: "Planet Rock Profiles is an imaginative music programme, and viewer reaction has always been extremely favourable. The fact that Planet Rock Profiles is returning to ITV for a third long running season proves that it is a robust product in an increasingly competitive programme genre."
Julia Lamaison, Director of Broadcasting for ITV2 said "This wide ranging music series is coming to ITV2 for the first time. Its broad appeal will complement out contemporary mix of programming and we look forward to including it in our schedules later this year."
Andrew Fitzpatrick, Chairman of Monster Distributes said: "We are delighted to have been given this opportunity by Carlton to produce another series of Planet Rock Profiles. The series has been built into a substantial music brand, with 77 episodes produced in total, and it has been broadcast in 37 countries."
The series is written and introduced by Tom Dunne, who is not only a leading music broadcaster on TV and radio, but also one of Ireland's most successful songwriters.
